Understanding
swollen lymph nodes / swollen glands
|
Enlarged
lymph nodes such as swollen glands in the neck are lymph glands
which are a part of the lymph system and an important part of
your body's immune system. These swollen lymph nodes / glands
in the neck, usually do not indicate acute leukemia, lymphoma
cancer or lymph node cancer. Early symptoms of leukemia,
symptoms of lymphoma, the types of leukemia, and the causes
of leukemia are covered below if you have concerns of lymph
cancer or lymphoma symptoms or have been diagnosed. The truth
is that tender and swollen lymph nodes usually indicate an infection
and should be addressed by supporting the body naturally and
building up the immune system to fight the problem. Another
situation where swollen lymph nodes may be noticed is after
injury to the body as the lymph glands are responsible for protecting
the body from infection. Antibiotics do not build up the body's
immune system they are usually only a temporary fix and can
actually weaken the immune system if done frequently.
Dr.
Bartell and his staff here at the Alternative Medicine New Hope
Health Clinic help patients across the country with all types
of lymph and blood conditions such as Chronic Leukemia cancer
to acute infection with swollen glands in neck - naturally without
drugs or surgery. If you are concerned about swollen lymph
nodes or have swollen glands in the neck and think you may have
cancer, phone consultations are available with Dr. Bartell to
help you determine the cause of your symptoms. We can help you!
The
picture indicates location of lymph nodes in body tissues within
the lymph system. Here are some general symptoms or characteristics
that can be identified to help rule out the possibility of swollen
lymph nodes indicating lymph cancer.
Swollen
Lymph Nodes - Cancer Symptoms
-
The
lymph node will be enlarged and hard.
-
The
lymph node will not be tender to the touch.
-
The
gland will commonly have a bumpy feel to it.
-
The
lymph glands will usually be non-movable.
-
A
connected chain of these lymph glands together is common.
-
The
lymph glands will not change size quickly.
Swollen
Lymph Nodes - Non-Cancerous Symptoms
-
Enlarged
and swollen lymph nodes that are very tender
-
Swollen
glands that have a fairly smooth texture and soft to the
touch
-
Swollen
lymph nodes that are moveable with palpation
-
Swollen
lymph nodes that are more isolated and clearly defined
-
Swollen
lymph nodes may change size within days.
Your
personal medically history is also important in diagnosing lymph
cancer as well as a blood test or tissue study such as is done
with a biopsy. If a history of a prior cancer diagnosis exists
or acute leukemia or chronic leukemia, the risk of a lymph node
enlargement being cancerous increases significantly.
Lymph
Nodes Location
The
picture above shows the lymph nodes location and in general,
the areas that are the most concentrated and noticeable to the
touch are the neck, arm pit, and groin areas. One reason the
concentration of lymph glands is high at these locations is
that the lymph vessels that drain the head area have to pass
through the glands in the neck prior to entry into the main
part of the body. The same is true for the arm / breast areas,
and the legs. Most of the waste and toxicity from the body's
tissues is mixed with blood serum outside of the blood stream
which then collects into the small lymph vessels and begins
to move toward the heart. Lymph glands are "check points" and
function to monitor the lymph waste removal system as it makes
it's one way travel back toward the heart and into the blood
stream. If the lymph nodes detect a pathogen or microbe such
as a virus, the lymph glands will isolate the problem and begin
to produce an army of "smart" white blood cells which are designed
to attack the specific problem. This will commonly give symptoms
of swollen lymph nodes. Some lymphocytes (white blood cells)
have a 20 year memory for immunity.
Lymphoma
Cancer
Lymphoma
cancer or 'lymph node cancer' can involve the lymphocyte, which
is the white blood cell responsible for eliminating viruses.
Lymph cancer usually develops into a tumorous mass within the
lymph nodes producing symptoms of hard swollen glands. If the
symptoms and cancer is mainly located within the bone marrow
and blood, with no tumor mass in the lymph, then the diagnosis
would be leukemia. There are two main types of lymphoma, non-Hodgkin's
and Hodgkin's with many specific types of cancer in these classifications,
see types of leukemia below. Enlarged lymph nodes are also commonly
a sign of metastatic cancer which is when a primary cancer site
i.e. breast, lung, or colon cancer has spread to the lymph system
creating cancerous swollen glands.
Types
of Leukemia
Acute
Leukemia is a cancerous overgrowth of white blood cell precursors
called 'blasts' in the bone marrow or lymph tissue and they
accumulate in the blood, bone marrow and other body tissues
and vital organs. Acute Leukemia can be divided into three main
types... Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (which is also called Acute
Lymphoblastic Leukemia and some may call it Acute Lymphatic
Leukemia) and is abbreviated 'ALL' , Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia
'AML' (which is also termed Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Acute Myelogenous
Leukimia, Acute Myloid Leukemia and Acute Myelocytic Leukemia)
and the third type is Acute Monoblastic or Acute Monocytic Leukemia.
Acute Leukemia cancer is mainly a childhood disease with a highest
occurrence from ages three to five and most common in white
boys living in urban areas. ALL makes up 80% of childhood leukemias
and this is the number one childhood cancer in the US. The cause
of leukemia with these children is reported to be genetic as
well as have a viral component. Early symptoms of leukemia for
Acute Leukemia is sudden onset of a high fever, abnormal bleeding
such as nosebleeds, bleeding from the gums, and easy bruising
as well as various other symptoms such as low grade fever, weakness,
pale color, chills, and frequent infections.
Chronic
Leukemia has two main classifications which are Chronic Myeloid
Leukemia, (Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, Chronic Myelocytic
Leukemia, or Chronic Granulocytic Leukemia) and is abbreviated
'CML', and the second type is Chronic Lymphcytic Leukemia (Chronic
Lymphatic Leukemia) abbreviated 'CLL'. The Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
is uncommon in children under ten years old and is most common
in adults in their 40's. Many times there are no symptoms for
years with this form of leukemia and found during an incidental
CBC blood test with a total white blood cell count WBC of about
200,000/uL. There are also other non-specific symptoms that
may be present such as fatigue, weight loss, fever, night sweats,
abnormal bleeding, and or enlarged spleen. Chronic Lymphocytic
Leukemia is a cancer of older persons with an average age of
60 and is more common in men by two to three times compared
to women. There is a genetic factor as it is rare in Japanese
men and women even within the US.

Chronic Leukemia - Patient Report...
|
|

CML (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia) diagnosed on bone marrow
biopsy January 2001, accompanied by night sweats, anemia,
low platelets, high monocytes (59%), myalgias, and minor
infections. Up to 6 months prior I walked 2 miles each
way to work, juiced veggies and wheat grass and led a
busy lifestyle with less than adequate rest. Job entailed
breathing lots of jet and diesel exhaust.
Benefit
of Holistic Natural Medicine with Dr. Bartell:
Two and a half years before meeting Dr. Bartell, with
no conventional treatment taken with my hematologist,
I began herbal treatment in therapeutic doses. My immunity
slowly built up to clear infections. By then I had also
reduced all stress taking a retirement from work. In May
2005 I went to New Hope Health Clinic for 1 week of treatment
with Dr. Bartell and his great staff. His approach to
kick-start one's immunity through IV Therapy, detoxifying
the body, as well as addressing hindering emotional factors
may well be the wisest approach compared to conventional
methods in the fight to eliminate life-threatening diseases.
Only in the event of an aggressive brain tumor would radiation
therapy by my preference in order to "buy time"
for building immunity. Body's are wired amazingly for
healing given half a chance. My blood picture improved
after returning home from my week of treatment and I continued
with several supplements including one that boosts the
Natural Killer Cell activity by 400% according to independent
tests. Between all the prayer I get, and all that I am
doing (supplementation, juicing, using the Live Vitalizer
machine - available through Dr. Bartell, getting plenty
of rest, and a personal relationship with Yahuah the Son, my Lord,
healer, and sustainer), I am experiencing increased energy
levels and am not affected when others succumb to contagious
viruses. Kick-starting my immunity combined with continued
emphasis on rebuilding it has given me the best results.
My hematologist is amazed with how well I'm maintaining
compared to his other patients with CML and tells me to
continue whatever I'm doing. Dr. Bartell is generous with
his time on the phone answering new questions. Prognosis
according to National Cancer Institute is 14-18 months
median life expectancy with CML.
